Close up with Lesley Paterson

February 13th, 2010 by Lisa

Being the only two females on the triathlon team we thought it would be good to get to know each other a bit better. As she is over in San Diego and me myself in Canberra, catching up for a coffee seemed a bit difficult. Second best is of course an interview, with the result published below.

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present Lesley Paterson!

What does your morning routine look like? (From awakening until 1st session). Bet it slightly different from any average girl…

Ha! Well, I generally roll over and check my blackberry for the 1000 messages that have accrued overnight! Generally its emails from athletes that have questions about their morning workouts. However, sometimes it can be really exciting emails about film…so much so, it can be hard to sleep! We do some business in the UK – hence the time difference. I also always speak to my writing-producing partner before training so that we can plan out our day of phone calls, dream about when we ‘make it’ and generally keep each other going. Then its stuff my face with porridge and away we go! Oh and kiss hubby goodbye while he’s asleep – he always knows when I haven’t done that.

What makes XTERRA cooler than the ITU races..?

Xterra is everything I always thought triathlon should be. I grew up in the rugged outdoors of Scotland with beautiful challenging scenery and that’s Xterra all over. Somehow, you honestly do feel like you’re not racing your competitors, you’re racing the terrain! ITU seems so clean, polished and urban that it has taken the spirit out of triathlon!

Which of your training gadgets couldn’t you be without?

My camelbak – without nutrition I’m useless….in fact, not just useless – plain grumpy! It also carries my favorite bar too – Clif Builders Bar…I’m not even sponsored by them and I am TOTALLY addicted!!!

Exciting visit by journo Catarina Axelsson this week! What is Will Clarke up to..?
