Eldoret

Eldoret -the home of Kenyan running.
It is my 25th birthday today and I’m celebrating on 2100m in the Kenyan Rift Valley. So far it hasn’t been the greatest of experiences as I came down with either food poisoning or Malaria, or as the doctor though a good mix of both, last night. The morning was spent in hospital getting the anti Malaria treatment which seemed to have worked a treat as I managed a few pieces of toast this afternoon. I’ll have to kill some easy days watching the Kenyans run before I can join in for some lighter running later this week.
We are booked in at the IAAF High altitude training centre a 7km drive outside Eldoret (luckily not too far away from the hospital). There are four Kenyan runners here right now who lives and trains full time at the centre with the dream of London 2012. There are also two coaches, with who Darren been talking lots to, and a support team of staff, cleaners and kitchen personel.
I can’t imagine a better place to run and improve as a runner.
Hopefully I will be able to join in with the group in a couple of days when my body has recovered a bit better. Right now the longest distance I’ll walk is the one from my bedroom to the dining hall.
