The “Idrottssgalan” (Swedish sports award gala)
January 19th, 2010 by Lisa

It was a bit of a magical night in the Globe in Stockholm last night. The crème de la crème of Swedish sport was gathered together with celebrities, politicians and the royal crown prince of Sweden. I got to wear a pair of devilish heels, walk the red carpet and eat fantastic food. My table was just down below from the scene only a few meters away from the table of honour and Prince Karl-Philip. He had the Swedish heapthatlon star Karolina Klüft to the table. I was in the company of the Beijing silver medallist Gustav Larsson (the saxobank rider who also got 2nd at worlds this year) and a player from the U21 soccer team.
I was nominated in the category “female Swedish sports person of the year) together with Sara Sjöström (swimming), Emma Johansson (cycling) and Helena Johnsson (biathlon). It was pretty cool to watch the presentation of the nominated up on the big screen. A mix of images and videos from my season just past was screened out for everyone to see. Not only everyone in the Globe but also an estimated 2 million people watching it from the TV couch. Goosebumps.
In the end it was a very well deserved Helena Johnsson who took home the award. She also brought home the very prestigious “Jerringpriset” which is a peoples choice award and I would say the finest you can win in Sweden.
The night lasted well after the TV cameras was turned off and will be one that goes down in the memory books. I very much enjoy being in Stockholm in general, then staying at a nice hotel being treated to a night like that, well, thank you very much!
Now I’m on my way back home on the train trough a very cold and snow covered Sweden. I have two more days of survival in this climate before I get on the plane back to Australia.
Tomorrow will be another busy day which will consist of collecting various sport awards in the south Swedish region. Tough life
